Productfocus

IBS is one of the few information technology (IT) productcompanies in India, and a leading one in the world serving thetravel, transportation and logistics (TTL) industry. IT productcompanies are different from IT services companies. Productcompanies are at the higher end of the value chain, where they arethe architects, designers and builders of future products, whichshould address customers' needs 10–20 years ahead. Productcompanies have higher risks, and accordingly, higher returns ifsuccessful. For IBS, all 17 of its products in its six lines ofbusiness have been fully accepted by the industry.

IBS has invested over 4500 man-years in developing its products, which can be equated to US$750 million.

Contribution to the TTLindustry

IBS has contributed much to the industry it serves, forinstance:

  • IBS provides new-generation airline cargo management[3]systems, integrating the cargo/freight chain from shipper toconsignee[4].
  • IBS pioneered the concept of collaborating with end-users toform a Core group of Influence[5][6] toensure comprehensive functionality and validate the use of industrybest practices in its products.
  • Another example is IBS’ iLogistics[7], aglobal logistics management system that is currently underimplementation with two Oil & Gas majors[8] inthe Fortune 10 category. iLogistics replaces close to a hundredother systems/methods earlier in use with the first client. Thesecond client has started using the iLogistics process as areference for introducing best practices for operational &process efficiency.
